THE Dagupan City council transportation committee is set to hold a public hearing on the petition for fare increase of the tricycle operators in the city.

Councilor Karlos Reyna said the City Council sympathizes with the tricycle drivers and operators due to the continuing escalation of the price of gasoline. The committee has to get reactions from the different sectors before they can make a proposal.

The Metro Dagupan Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association, Inc. (MDToda) wrote Reyna seeking an adjustment in the tricycle fare.

From P7, the tricycle operators are asking for a P10 provisional fare while waiting for the approval of their petition for fare increase.

MDToda has proposed that the minimum fare for the first two kilometers should be P12 per passenger (P8 for students and senior citizens), and an additional P4 for every succeeding kilometer.

They also requested that the special fare be pegged at P35 per trip (P20 per trip for students or senior citizens), and an additional P5 per passenger for every succeeding kilometer.

They also proposed a midnight fare (from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.) of P13 per passenger for the first two kilometers.

The last tricycle fare increase in the city was two years ago.

Meanwhile, the city’s Public Order and Safety Office (Poso) asked the riding public to report tricycle drivers who are overcharging them.

The agency said a commuter has to take note of the number in the tricycle’s body sticker issued by the City Government and give this to the Poso personnel on the streets.

It assured that erring tricycle drivers will be apprehended.
