Tropical storm “Julian” has slowed down as it moved away from the country, weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday morning.

As of 5 a.m., the tropical storm was 400 kilometers west northwest of Laoag City, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 90 kph. It was moving west at 11 kph.

Public Storm Signal No. 1 was still up over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and La Union provinces.

PAGASA said Julian will continue to bring rains over the western sections of Luzon as it continued to enhance the southwest monsoon.

The state weather bureau maintained its advisory for residents in low lying areas and near mountain slopes to take precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides.
