Benguet farmers are now looking forward to the mass production of their hometown product, the veggie noodles. They see this plan as a solution to their problem of having an oversupply of vegetables.

“Sayang rin kasi ang daming nasisirang gulay na di nabebenta,” said vegetable dealer Lydia Salvador.

Squash, carrots, potato, malunggay and other vegetables in Benguet can all be made into veggie noodles, according to its proponent, Dr. Violeta Salda.

In fact, they are also developing veggie pastas and seasoning products.

Salda also said that they are already receiving orders for veggie products.

In her past visit to Benguet, President Arroyo gave P10 million for the further development of the project. Around P3 million has already been used for production facilities.

Benguet Gov. Nestor Fongwan, meanwhile, sees the project as an opportunity to boost the economy of the province.

A pack of Proud Harvest Veggie Noodles costs P35. It is one of the leading products of Go Negosyo, and is presently being sold in Tindahan Natin  stores nationwide.

The production of veggie noodles is currently in Benguet State University while its processing plant in the province is expected to be finished in December.
